Great Locations for your Next Photo Session in Midland Tx or Odessa Tx

One of the questions I ask my clients during a consultation is, “Do you have a location in mind for your session?”. Very often my clients will tell me, “No. I haven’t thought about it.” Or, “I’m not from around here and not familiar with the area".

Part of what I love about what I do is finding the perfect location. No matter what look you are going for in your images, or even if you are unsure, one of these local spots will usually give us the perfect background for your session.

I-20 Wildlife Preserve

Family Photo Session I-20 Wildlife Preserve Midland, TX

This beautiful preserve is a non-profit urban playa hidden off of I-20 in Midland. It has 86 acres of wetlands, tall grass, and a forest of trees. The preserve is so large and has so many different types of trees and vegetation that you can walk ten paces and have a different background.

It’s a beautiful spot for that family photo session and romantic enough for an engagement session. It is beautiful in the Spring and Summer, but also beautiful in the fall.

The I20 preserve does have summer and fall hours, so keep that in mind if you are considering this location for your next session. Currently, they are open until 8 pm, but they close sooner in the fall. They also don’t allow dogs on the trails, so if you want portraits with your pooch, let's move on to the next location.

Sibley Nature Center

If you are looking for an open field with a West Texas vibe, this is the sport for you. The Sibley nature center is another preserved plot of land that features a beautiful West Texas landscape of mesquites, tall grass, and wildflowers in the spring.

The wide-open space this location provides is perfect for any session. If mother nature is in our favor, we can get dramatic skies and the perfect golden sun ray in your images.

This location also welcomes dogs, and walking trails are always open. Perfect for that early morning session or late golden hour session, with or without your pooch.

UTPB Duck Pond

Odessa, TX

Enough about Midland. Let's take a look at a popular location in Odessa. There are many great spots at UTPB. They have large soccer fields, the Stonehenge art installment, and nature trails that provide a wide variety of backgrounds. I would have to say the duck pond is by far the most popular.

There are two ponds for that beautiful family photo, plenty of room to walk around in, and trees surrounding the entire area. There is also a little hill that, when the sun is in the right spot, makes for dramatic images.

The UTPB duck pond does have seasonal hours as well, but there is a path from the West side of the park where you can walk in. Did I mention that it’s also pooch friendly? This is a great location for really any session in any season.

So How Do I Choose?

I know, so many choices, but what is best for you and your session? During your consultation, we will talk about what type of session you have in mind and what you want your images to look like. I will go over locations and we can decide what works best for your vision.

If you still are unsure about your session details, do not fear. I will send you an inspiration board to give you an idea of what I think your session will look like.

I also have plenty of other locations up my sleeve, so if these don’t work for you, don’t worry. I will always have the right location for your session to give you the beautiful background in your images you are looking for.
